My last three years of teaching school were in High Point. My wife and I moved there to be close to my father. After his death we moved back to Concord, NC. As we remodeled a home, my thyroid cancer that I first had at age 52 came back. In 2010 I was given a 5% chance to live past five years. But I'm still kicking. Duke Cancer Clinic gets a lot of the credit. I've had several more surgeries and enough radiation to glow in the dark, but I'm still here. I retired from teaching when my cancer returned, but have been a volunteer with ThyCa and Relay for Life. As our class ages, many of us will be hit with difficult health problems. I hope you have a great caregiver (my wife is the best, but I keep her busy). As I write this we are in the start of a battle with coronavirus. I don't know what the outcome will be but I know that life is worth fighting for. Best wishes to all my former classmates. Joy and Peace.
