Obituary of Cynthia Holliday
IN THE CARE OF
Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home
Cynthia (Cindy) Benn Holliday, a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, friend, and volunteer peacefully passed away after a 6-year battle with dementia June 8, 2023.
Born September 2, 1949, in Lynn, Massachusetts, Cindy was adopted at age 4 along with 2 siblings to Margel and Harry Benn. Soon after entering her new home with new parents, the family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she spent her formative years. After attending Cleveland Heights High School, Cindy attended Kent State University. An athletic teenager, Cindy was a member of the Golden Flashes dance team as well as being named freshman co-captain for the gymnastics team at Kent State University.

After college, Cindy had several professional positions in the Cleveland and Boston areas before relocating to High Point, NC to be close to her parents who had retired. With accounting and bookkeeping skills, she worked with Community Heating and Plumbing for several years before going into the non-profit world. Her first position was with the Bell House, an in-house facility for people with special needs. However, her longest tenure was with the Piedmont Triad Partnership where she handled accounting duties while producing the Triad Leadership Network for 8 years. Working with community leaders from the 11 county Piedmont Triad, she ran a 9-month program to develop future leaders for our community.

Always dedicated to children, Cindy’s career continued with the NC Children’s Home Society in their marketing department raising money through programs like ‘The Little Red Stocking Fund’. After a few years her non-profit skills took her to the Alight Program, a breast cancer awareness organization where she helped grow the non-profit to impact hundreds of women in the triad. After a few years, she finished her full-time career at the Early Childhood Center at West Market Methodist Church where, while performing her accounting duties, Cindy enjoyed her first love which was being around children, a passion she never lost. After formally retiring and still wanting to serve, Cindy became a substitute teacher in the Guilford County School System.

From an early age, Cindy was actively engaged in her community both as a volunteer and through her commitment to her 3 children’s youth programs. From working with the youth group at Christ United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school for several years, to helping each summer with Vacation Bible School. Cindy coached Andrew’s soccer team and helped chaperone numerous field trips with Camberly’s Greensboro Youth Choir and the Greensboro Ballet. She even found time to become an active member of Greensboro’s Junior League, the Greensboro Jaycees, and the Greater Greensboro Open Golf Tournament.

Cindy’s life was an inspirational example of her faith in God, her commitment to her community, and her love of family. Her remarkable strength of character, joyful happy spirit, and incredible kindness to all she met left a positive impact on all who knew her. Without a doubt, her greatest joy was her three children Robert John Fleming, Andrew Todd Fleming, and her lovely daughter Camberly Noel Holliday, as well as her two grandchildren, and hundreds of young children who spent time embraced by her love.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Margel and Harry Benn, her sister Gina Benn, her brother Wayne Benn, and her wonderful daughter Camberly Holliday. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Keith Holliday, sons John and Andrew Fleming, her sister Carolyn Wallisch, two grandchildren, and numerous cousins.

Comfort, love, and care were so generously bestowed upon Cindy by caregiving angels Brenda Cunningham, Lorraine Williams, Whitney Layer, and Esther Uqwe, as well as the staff and leadership at Heritage Greens, The Arboretum.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16th at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 N. Holden Rd. Greensboro, NC followed by visitation in the church fellowship hall and a gravesite service at Westminster Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the NC Children’s Home Society, 1002 Yanceyville St. Greensboro NC 27405.

Hanes Lineberry Funeral Services are serving the Holliday family whose online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfhnorthelm.com.
