In Memory

Christopher Joseph "Chris" Moebes

Chris Moebes, 68, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2022, in his hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Chris is survived by his brother Greg Moebes, sister Anne Moebes, niece and nephews, Thursall Celle (Nicolas), Thorsen Winters and Kyle Winters (Gaby), and his sister-in-law Katrina Winters (Malcomb), as well as his great-nieces and nephews.  His parents, Betty and Jack Moebes, and brother Steven Dominic Moebes, preceded him in death.

He also leaves behind his extended family and friends not related by blood or marriage but linked together by love.

Chris’s childhood passion for cooking led him to pursue a culinary career and in 1991, he earned a degree in culinary arts, graduating with honors from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He went on to serve in various culinary roles in Greensboro and elsewhere, including owning his own restaurant and working on a Mississippi riverboat.  While he won culinary awards, perhaps his most coveted award was being the only sibling of four that his mother, also a great cook, would allow in her kitchen, and this is where he created his signature rendition of “pigs in a blanket,” which became a family hit.

He loved NASCAR races and his tailgate parties at NASCAR outings were legendary, as no one else could boast a menu with “chicken cordon bleu”. The common refrain: “Whatever that was, it was good!”

His many talents, e.g., plumbing, served him in other vocations throughout his life, and his keen curiosity provided him with many avocations as well, including reading, camping, and gardening.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Those wishing to honor Chris’s life are encouraged to contribute to commonthreads.org – a top-rated national nonprofit that provides children with cooking and nutrition education for lifelong wellness.

Arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation and Funeral Service of Greensboro, NC.

Chris was a really nice guy. He enjoyed playing backyard volleyball with our family and friends. I have many great memories from those days. We had reconnected on social media and I miss his kind comments on FB. RIP Chris
