John Rucker Obituary

John Snelling Rucker

December 5, 1952 - December 1, 2024

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, John S. Rucker passed away with his brother Kirk by his side on December 1, 2024, at the age of 71 years. Residing in Greensboro since age four, he graduated from Grimsley High School in 1971 and married soon after in 1973. John was a long-time custom contractor, general contractor and President of John Rucker, Inc. He enjoyed fishing at Ocean Isle Beach and playing golf. John had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to host family/friend "get-togethers" on his patio, by the pool that he built. He is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Margaret Rucker, and parents Vance and Betty Rucker. He is survived by daughter Jenifer Poteat (Dave) and son Jonathan Rucker (Amy). Grandchildren Samantha, Jordan, Bailey Poteat, and Summer and Holden Rucker. Brother Kirk Rucker (Pat), niece Lia Rucker (her daughter Sunny Rucker) and special friend, Laura Schuster. A private memorial service will be held in the Guilford Park Presbyterian Church Columbarium at later date. Any memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Place in Greensboro. John's last word to his family and friends was, "Peace."

Johnny Rucker, it's becoming sadder with the passing of friends who started in elementary school. The memories of specific things are fading, but you can still remember the overall picture. I remember you as a pleasant young kid who liked to play around and made friends quickly. I hope life was good for you because you deserved that. May God bless you and your family, extended family, and friends left behind.
