Charles James Dewitt

Charles (Chuck) James DeWitt, 67 of Leesburg, Florida passed away Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in Florida surrounded by his family.
Charles was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania on July 14th, 1952 to Martha Virginia and Charles Owens DeWitt.

Charles had a long and successful career in the entertainment and movie business, working for AMC, Muvico Theaters and Frank Theatres. His time in the theater industry had him managing operations at some of the country’s largest theaters, including the AMC at Pleasure Island at Walt Disney World. He received General Manager of the Year from AMC in 1995 and 1997.

His most recent job was working for Florida Department of Revenue, as their Revenue Administrator 2. Charles was the epitome of a public servant. He treated each person who walked through the lobby doors with upmost respect and compassion towards their needs.

Charles had a love for his 1934 Ford Coupe and attending classic car shows with his daughter, Jennifer. Charles loved going to amusement parks, especially Disney, watching movies, all things technology and computing, and doing yard work. He loved the holidays, and decorating outdoors was his passion during the Halloween and Christmas seasons.

Charles graduated from Grimsley High School, Greensboro NC, and went on to get a BS in Accounting from the University of North Florida. He was the Treasurer of the business fraternity “ Delta Sigma Pi”, and Senator in Student Government at UNF.

On March 10th, 1984 Charles was married to Marlene Gerwig Turk who survives him. He is also survived by adult children Jennifer (Rick) McCurry, Leesburg, FL, step-children Debra (Rod) Gantz, Ashland, OH, Elizabeth (Randy) Hickman Boynton Beach, FL, Bruce (Tammy) Turk, Ocala, FL. Six grandchildren, Nicole Murray, Heather Kline, John Stelogeannis, Davis Hickman, Alison Hickman, and Lindsey Turk. Five great-children, Camden, Grady and Julia Kline, Declan and Ronan Murray. He is also survived by his siblings Laurie DeWitt Dugan, Kathy Winkler, and Tim DeWitt, nephews Christopher Winkler, Robert J (Rebeca) Wizemann III, niece Whitney Tate.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Martha and Charles DeWitt.
